How To Write A Good Mission Statement
While there is no ‘one’ correct way to write a mission statement, some points are relevant as you begin to put words-to-paper. First, you will most likely struggle writing your mission statement so don’t expect the words to shower down from the heavens in a sudden burst of exhilarating inspiration—or clarity for that matter. You may write ‘several’ drafts over the course of many days or weeks. Here are my suggestions having led many executives and small business owners in writing or rewriting a mission statement:
- Do NOT search the Web for examples and then try to model your mission statement after the ones you like. Your mission statement won’t have the inspiration or meaning it should if you do. Your organization’s mission or purpose statement is too important to sound like something it’s not.
